Synopsys presents a four-day training on photonic design for photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The training is aimed at application and R&D engineers as well as managers interested in understanding the development of PICs and the role of software automation in their design, simulation, and fabrication procedures.
During this training, participants will receive an overview of the latest status of the integrated photonics eco-system, together with an overview of Synopsys PIC Design Tools and their role in integrated photonics design and manufacturing.
Synopsys will describe its photonic tool chain, which features OptSim Circuit for schematic-driven PIC design and custom generation of PDK components that can be used in combination with OptoDesigner, a comprehensive tool for PIC design and mask generation that naturally interfaces with OptSim Circuit for full PDK-driven and custom PIC design.
This training will feature live training and hands-on demonstration of the Synopsys PIC Design Tools for PDK-driven PIC design. The top-down training will demonstrate OptSim Circuit for PIC schematic entry and simulation and OptoDesigner for PIC layout and mask generation (including its interface with OptSim Circuit). During the hands-on session, attendees will have the opportunity to work directly with the software under the guidance of technical staff from the company.
The Annual Synopsys Training will take place the week before the PIC International conference and is taking place at the conference venue.

Synopsys' Optical Solutions Group is a leading developer of optical design and analysis tools that model all aspects of light propagation, enabling users to product accurate virtual prototypes leading to manufacturable optical systems. Our innovative optical ray trace software packages include CODE V® imaging design software, LightTools® illumination design software, LucidShape® products for automotive lighting, the RSoft™ products for photonic and optical network design, and the PhoeniX Software tools for photonic integrated circuit (PIC) layout and verification.
The RSoft product family is used to design, optimize and simulate optical telecommunication devices, optical components used in semiconductor manufacturing, and nano-scale optical structures. It enables engineers to design and optimize the optical components and systems found in products such as fiber optic networks, semiconductor lithography equipment, silicon optical chips and LEDs.
The PhoeniX Software tools support photonics design automation with photonic-aware physical layout and verification capabilities and a technology-agnostic design environment compatible with all PIC technologies. The tools support custom and PDK-driven design, with more than 30 foundry-specific PDKs built into the software. PhoeniX Software tools give IC design teams access to widely used, high-quality PIC and photonic design solutions for applications ranging from data communications to sensors and biomedical devices.
EPIC is the industry association that promotes the sustainable development of organisations working in the field of photonics in Europe. We foster a vibrant photonics ecosystem by maintaining a strong network and acting as a catalyst and facilitator for technological and commercial advancement. EPIC publishes market and technology reports, organizes technical workshops and B2B roundtables, coordinates EU funding proposals, advocacy and lobbying, education and training activities, standards and roadmaps and pavilions at exhibitions.
We ask for all participants to bring their own laptop with full administrative rights, as well as to make sure their laptops fulfill the following minimum system requirements:
During the training sessions, the participants will be required to install a third party software that will allow them to access a cloud-base service, where the PIC Design Tools are pre-installed for their convenience.
Teas, Coffees, Pastries and Lunch will be provided over the 4 days.
